The contributions of the electron transitions to the surface free energy φ TR at T = 300 K for the electrons in the lower surface band of the lower surface state have been calculated with the convolution integrals in Eqs. (7.3) and (7.4) for both the starting levels of the electron transitions, Ē k (ζ) and E k T. The results are depicted in Fig. 7.1 versus the chemical potential ζ.

Fig. 7.1The contributions to the surface free energy φ TR resulting from the electron transitions from the bulk into the lower surface band of the lower surface state at T = 300 K were calculated with the convolution integrals in Eqs. (7.3) and (7.4) and are depicted as functions of the chemical potential ζ. The starting levels for the electron transitions into the lower surface state are E k T (lower curve) and Ē k (ζ) (higher curve)
